The Most Dramatic Death of 2009: Alan Spaulding, GL

by Gigi on Dec.30, 2009, under Guiding Light, Random Soap Scoop

7321_5429302When 2009 began, we knew that Guiding Light would end its run in September. What we didn’t know was how great the show would be during its last month on the air. Soap sites remained basically spoiler free during the last days, so it was a huge shock when Alan Spaulding passed away while sitting on a park bench after making things right with his family. Alan’s death was more than a loss of a character, but rather symbolized the end of one the greatest shows in daytime history.

GL: Let Us Remember: “Coop” Bradshaw Cooper

by Gigi on Sep.17, 2009, under Guiding Light

JohnDriscollTall

We know that we can turn on Y&R and pretty much see John Driscoll any time we want in the form of “Chance” Chancellor. As Guiding Light ends, we want to honor some of the characters that we will never forget and Coop is one of those characters.

A Final Fatherly Gesture: GL

by Gigi on Sep.15, 2009, under Guiding Light

7321_5429302Alan Spaulding has been reigning over Springfield since Roger Thorpe’s demise and his biggest foe has always been his own son Phillip. The bitter feud had gone on for years until Phillip met an untimely “death”. Phillip miraculously came back to life and the battle began anew. Phillip was diagnosed with a fatal illness and desperately needed a bone marrow transplant to survive. Predictability be damned! To make a long story short, Alan and Phillip both underwent the surgery and it seems as if Phillip may survive after all and have the chance to have the life he has always wanted with Beth. It looked like Alan was going to be a part of that life, but sadly, Alan passed away today while enjoying his son’s happiness.

One Last Goodbye: Final Cast of Guiding Light

by Gigi on Sep.13, 2009, under Guiding Light

We would love to honor all of the actors and actresses that have devoted their lives to Guiding Light, but weguidinglight cannot for several reasons. The top reason? Quite frankly, our parents aren’t old enough to do all that, so we will just list the final cast members. I personally have watched most many of these talented people since I was a child and I have to wonder if we will see any of them on screen again. However, some have already moved on to new projects, such as Crystal Chappell. So have several of the younger cast members, such as Tom Pelphrey. Gina Tognoni is already in talks with Young and the Restless about a possible recast of an old character as well. What will be missed most is the show itself. Not the show as it has been in the last five years, but Guiding Light as it was in the days of Reva and Josh, Harley and Mallet, and Blake and Ross. The light has gone out for:

Alan Spaulding: Ron Raines
Alexandra Spaulding: Marjorie Dusay
Ashlee Wolfe: Caitlin Van Zandt
Bill Lewis III: Daniel Cosgrove
Christina Blake Thorpe Marler: Elizabeth Keifer
Christina Boudreau: Karla Mosley
Clarissa Marler: Naelee Rae
Cyrus Foley: Murray Bartlett
Dinah Marler: Gina Tognoni
Doris Wolfe: Orlagh Cassidy
Dr. Frederick “Rick” Bauer: Michael O’Leary
Edmund Winslow: David Andrew MacDonald
Elizabeth “Beth” Raines Bauer: Beth Chamberlin
Elizabeth “Lizzie” Spaulding: Marcy Faith (Behrens) Rylan
Frank “Buzz” Cooper Sr: Justin Deas
Frank Cooper Jr.: Frank Dicopoulos
Harlan “Billy” Lewis II: Jordan Clarke
James Spaulding: Zack Conroy
Jeffery O’Neill: Bradley Thomas Cole
Jonathan “JB” Randall: Tom Pelphrey
Joshua Lewis: Robert Newman
Leah Bourdeau Bauer (Current): Tyra Collar
Lillian Raines: Tina Sloan
Marina Cooper: Mandy Bruno
Matt Reardon: Kurt McKinney
Melissande “Mel” Boudreau Bauer: Yvonna Kopacz Wright
Natalia Rivera Aitoro: Jessica Leccia
Olivia Spencer: Crystal Chappell
Phillip Granville Spaulding: Grant Aleksander
Rafael “Rafe” Rivera: E.J. Bonilla
Remy Boudreau: Lawrence Saint-Victor
Reva Shayne: Kim Zimmer
Shayne Lewis: Jeff Branson
Susan ‘Daisy’ Lemay: Bonnie Dennison
Vanessa Chamberlain Lewis Reardon: Maeve Kinkead

The Golden Days Of Reva’s Clone: GL

by Gigi on Sep.07, 2009, under Guiding Light

Reva Shayne Lewis O’Neill (Kim Zimmer) has had her fair share of outrageous storylines. In fact, Reva ranks high at the list of soap characters who die and continue to come back to life. During one of these instances, the love of Reva’s life, Josh Lewis, could not deal with the pain of losing Reva one more time. So desperate was Josh to see his beautiful lady love again, he enlisted the help of a young and naive doctor who promised to clone Reva.

revacloneThe cloning was a success and a beautiful baby girl was, um, hatched. Josh and the not-so good Doctor Burke were shocked and alarmed to discover that the clone was growing and aging at a rapid pace. Suddenly Josh was faced with a whole new dilemma: a sex crazed teenage Reva played by the ultra talented Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill). The teenage Reva fell in love with Josh and was just about ready to do anything to be with him when, surprise, Reva was alive! revaclone1

revaclone2Grown Clone Reva kidnapped Real Reva in an attempt to stop the couple’s happy reunion. Reva became attached to the clone, even naming her Dolly. Eventually, Dolly gave up her quest to win Josh for herself and resolved to let the rapid aging take her life. As ridiculous as this storyline was, the finale really was bittersweet. Reva and Josh didn’t stay together after the Dolly Debacle and they are not together now. Will long time fans finally get the Josh and Reva reunion desire?
